A Day at Streamvale Farm. P1McC/W

18th May 2022

On Wednesday 11th May we set off on a long bus journey to Streamvale Farm where we met Amy the farmer. She was so glad to see us as she had lots of work to do and we got to be her helpers for the day.

First up, we had to feed the pigs and hens. Boy were they hungry! Next up was a very bumpy tractor ride to the top of the hill, where we found some deer to feed. They were a bit slobbery and loved licking the food off our hands!!

Deer fed and it was back down the hill again, where the sheep, alpacas and goats were waiting for their lunch. Dobby, the biggest goat, was a bit hungry and impatient. He could smell his lovely goat food and couldn’t wait any longer. He jumped the fence and escaped from his pen to try and get it. What a job we had trying to catch him.

Amy let us have a little rest after all that excitement. While we were relaxing we got to hold some fluffy chicks that were only 2 days old and pet some baby rabbits that were very soft and fluffy too.

Back to work, and our last job of the day was with one of the biggest animals on the farm. We had to milk Buttercup the cow. It was a tough job and everyone had to have a turn as cows can store quite a lot milk in their udder. We had definitely earned our picnic lunch by the time we had finished.

Amy taught us lots of facts about the farm as we worked and she thought we were the best farm helpers she had ever met. Who knows maybe one of us will be a farmer when we grow up!
