World Book Day is Coming! 2nd March.

10th Feb 2023

What are books full of? WORDS!! We are going to do lots of activities during the day, based on words and reading. Does your child have a favourite word or can they use the dictionary or thesaurus to find an unusual or very descriptive word? Have they found a brilliant new word in a book you have been reading together ?

This year, instead of dressing up in PJs or as a book character, we are having A VOCABULARY DAY !

Children will come into school displaying an 'extraordinarily amazing' word. They could have a sign around their neck, a hat with the word on it or dress up as the word. A ‘vocabulary parade’ in each classroom allows us to share a plethora of fabulous words.  Generally, a describing word would work better than a noun, so for example, if they wanted to come in their football kit, they could be ‘skilful’ rather than ‘footballer’. If someone fancied coming in their Brownie uniform they could be ‘reliable’ or ‘helpful’, rather than ‘Brownie’. See how creative they can be –  can anyone think of a better word than the teachers?

There is no need to go to any expense or buy costumes. We are more keen on the fabulous learning the children will all be doing through sharing, talking and thinking about words. 😉
