GPS House System
School House System
This initiative aims to foster a stronger sense of community, promote leadership and teamwork, and encourage positive self-esteem amongst our pupils. This system was sourced and developed by our wonderful School Council members. They procured the funding via our Board of Governors, ordered the products, named and allocated the houses, and even suggested some team events for next year. Each child and staff member has been allocated a house by our School Council members (via a random selection process), each with a unique name and colour, the School Council has named them:
- Knockagh (Knockagh Monument)
- Station (Greenisland Train Station)
- Lough (Belfast Lough)
- Stirling (Paul Stirling ex-pupil and cricketer)
We feel that all children will benefit from our new house system in the following key ways:
- Enhanced Community Spirit:
The house system will foster a sense of belonging and connection among pupils, making our school a more vibrant and welcoming place.
2. Leadership Development:
Pupils will have opportunities to take on leadership roles within their houses, developing valuable skills in teamwork, communication, and organisation.
3. Positive Self-Esteem:
Participation in house activities will encourage students to build their self-confidence and learn from their successes and mistakes. This will also encourage resilience and celebrate achievements.
4. Life Skills Development:
The house system will provide opportunities for students to develop important life skills such as teamwork, communication, and conflict resolution.
5. FUN!
Each September, our P6 and P7 pupils will nominate Pupil House Captains and Deputy House Captains. Children will remain in the same house throughout their time at Greenisland Primary School. Children will earn coloured tokens for various reasons, these can include excellent pieces of work, trying their best, kindness, helpfulness, good manners, achievements inside and outside of school etc. Tokens will be counted at intervals throughout the year and the winning house will avail of a treat. We believe that the house system is a valuable asset to our school community, and we are excited to see the positive impact it will have on our students.
