🎶 Music at Greenisland Primary School

At Greenisland Primary School, we are proud to offer a rich and varied music programme supported by our dedicated Peripatetic Music Staff. Over 50 children receive instrumental lessons on a weekly basis, developing their musical skills and confidence under the expert guidance of:

  • 🎺 Mrs. S. Gillan – Brass and Woodwind Tutor

  • 🎻 Mrs. S. Shepherd – Violin Tutor

  • 🎹 Mrs. H. Calderwood – Brass and Piano Tutor

  • 🎸 Mr. M. Rankin – Guitar and Ukulele Tutor


🌟 Musical Evening 2025

This year’s Musical Evening, held in the school assembly hall, was a fantastic celebration of our pupils’ talents. The event featured a mix of musical performances, poetry recitals, and ensemble work, all reflecting the energy and enthusiasm of our young performers.

🎼 Highlights from the Evening

Some standout moments from the evening included:

  • 🎤 The Choir, directed by Mr. Lovell, performed upbeat and heartwarming pieces including Consider Yourself and We Go Together. A special mention to soloists Rebekah Houston and Emilia Hindley-Borras in the Bruno Mars' song- Count on Me.

  • 🎻 The String Ensemble, led by Mrs. Shepherd, impressed with Spring by Vivaldi and a spirited performance of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

  • 🎷 The Woodwind Ensemble, conducted by Mrs. Gillan, brought smiles with familiar themes from The Muppet Show Opening and Dad’s Army.

  • 🎺 The Brass Ensemble, also under Mrs. Gillan, performed the nostalgic Postman Pat and the upbeat Congratulations.

  • 🎸 The Ukulele and Guitar Ensemble, directed by Mr. Rankin, featured pupils from Primary 6 (Mr. Lovell's class) along with members of the Guitar Group, delivering a lively rendition of Shivers by Ed Sheeran.

  • 🎶 Notable solo performances included:

    • What Makes You Beautiful and Perfect (clarinet solo and duet) – Penny Dixon and Saul Thompson

    • My Heart Will Go On (flute solo) – Lucy Lavery

    • Tomorrow (vocal solo) – Naomi Swain

    • Somewhere Only We Know (clarinet solo) – Saul Thompson

  • 📖 Our talented verse speakers, prepped by Mrs. Stocker, delivered expressive and entertaining poetry including Hippopotamuses, Homework and A New Me.
